Tour overview

6 Days Marangu Route

Known as the “Coca-Cola” route, the  Marangu route for 6 days is a classic trek on Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest, most well-established route. Many people choose the Marangu route because it is thought to be the simplest on the mountain due to its gentle slope. It’s also the only route with dormitory-style sleeping huts.

Marangu Map

This route requires a minimum of 5 days to complete, but the chances of completing it in that time are slim. Spending an extra acclimatization day on the mountain is highly recommended when climbing Kilimanjaro using the Marangu route.

Despite its success, we don’t recommend leading climbs on the Marangu route. Since the ascent and descent are performed in the same direction, this route has the least scenic variety of all the routes, and it is also the busiest. Marangu is only recommended during the rainy season when hut accommodations are preferred over wet ground, or for those with only five days to climb Kilimanjaro (which is not recommended).
