Day 1: Machame Camp
We will pick you up at the hotel in Moshi after breakfast and drive about an hour to the Machame gate where the trek starts. From the Machame Park gate it's a gentle hike up through dense rainforest to the Machame Camp.
Day 2: Shira Camp
The morning starts with a personal introduction to your trekking team. The hike is different today as the jungle gives away to zones of giant heather and moorland. If you have enough time you take a short hike to the Shira Caves after reaching camp.
Day 3: Barranco Camp
Leaving Shira camp in the morning you climb towards the main peak Kibo, with the western glaciers clearly visible across the rugged high-altitude desert of volcanic rocks and boulders. The trail ascends to the Lava Tower site (15000 feet / 4600m) before descending back down into Barranco Valley. Its 6 to 7 hours walking and the total ascent is only 110m total but having climbed much higher and dropped back down assists acclimatization.
Day 4: Karanga Camp
After breakfast, we continue on a steep ridge up to the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction, which connects, with the Mweka Trail. This is one of the most impressive days to see the power, agility, and strength of your crew zip over this wall with what appears such ease.
Day 5: Barafu High Camp
We continue up toward Barafu Camp, and once reached you have now completed the South Circuit, which offers a variety of breathtaking views of the summit from many different angles. An early dinner and rest as we prepare for summit night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.
Day 6: Uhuru Peak Altitude
Excitement is building as morning comes with an early start between midnight and 2 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
We continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that lies ahead. With a switchback motion in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise during your short rest here. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit. From here on your remaining 1 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you are likely to encounter snow all the way.
Congratulations, one step at a time you have now reached Uhuru Peak the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire continent of Africa!
After photos, celebrations and maybe a few tears of joy we take a few moments to enjoy this incredible accomplishment. We begin our steep descent down to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch and a very brief rest. We strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles for uncooperative loose gravel and volcano ash terrain. Well-deserved rest awaits you to enjoy your last evening on the mountain. Overnight Mweka Camp.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Arusha
From Mweka campsite it is a 4 to 5 hours descent through the forest to Mweka gate to collect certificates and meet the vehicle. Drive to Arusha for the night and to have a final farewell dinner with your guides before you head out on your safari.
Day 8: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
We depart Arusha in the morning, and head for Tarangire National Park, where you will begin your first game drive before midday. Lunch will be served under the mighty Boabob trees after you enter the park and catch your first glimpses of the wildlife and spectacular scenery. After lunch, make your way through the park snapping photos of the zebra, giraffe and elephant that call this area their home. After a full afternoon of game drives, head to your campsite for dinner and a night under the stars.
Fanaka Camping and Lodge *
Day 9: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
There was a reason that "The Lion King" creators drew their inspiration from the Serengeti, and today you will get to discover why. Renowned for its' large lion population, this may be the best opportunity to get a great view of a Lion Pride in their natural habitat, as the gazelles, zebras, and buffalo are abundant in this region. Come during the right season, and witness the birth of the wildebeest calves, where they will begin their annual migration to Kenya at the end of May. Lunch will be served in the park, and after a full day of games drives your campsite awaits.
Pimbi Camp Serengeti *
Day 10: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
After a hearty breakfast and morning game drive in the Serengeti, we make our way to the infamous Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive volcanic caldera. An abundance of wildlife graces this infamous area, known worldwide for its' stunning landscape. Enjoy spotting a multitude of different species, from elephants, hippos and giraffes to the majestic Crater Lions and ravenous hyenas. After a short glimpse of the crater, we wind our way upwards as we head to our campsite on top of the crater rim.
Simba Camp Ngorongoro *
Day 11: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we descend back into the crater for an early morning game drive, hoping the cool morning air allows for us to see some active wildlife. As the temperatures rise, we may head to the hippo pool to see these spectacular creatures enjoying a dip to beat the heat. As lunch approaches, we make our way to the picnic site on the lake, taking in the spectacular views and a bite to eat before you head out on the final game drive. After our last glimpse of the park, we head towards the crater rim for another overnight at our campsite.
Simba Camp Ngorongoro *
Day 12: Ngorongoro to Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
After your breakfast, head to Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive before lunch. With over 400 species of birds, including the flamingos famous for making this park their home, this is an ideal park for the bird aficionado. If we are lucky, we may be able to spot a lazy leopard lounging in a tree, waiting for his next meal, which is all but guaranteed with the variety of species living by the lake. After our final afternoon game drive, we head back to Arusha town for your next adventure.
Day 13: Departure Day
After breakfast, according to your flight time we will drop you at the airport or assist you in catching the shuttle to Nairobi. End of our services.
