The terrain can be steep and demanding, so we advise assessing your fitness level before embarking on this unique experience. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable getaway, this safari promises an unforgettable journey into one of Tanzania’s hidden gems.
Your journey begins with an early morning flight from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma, a historic town on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Upon arrival in Kigoma, your guide will greet you and transfer you to the port, where you’ll board a boat for a scenic trip across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe Stream National Park. As you approach Gombe, the lush green hills rise from the lake, giving you a glimpse of the untouched wilderness that awaits. After arriving at the park, check-in at your lodge or campsite. In the late afternoon, enjoy a relaxing walk along the lakeshore or a short nature walk near the camp to stretch your legs after the journey. Overnight stay at Kasekela Special Camp.
Start your day with an early breakfast, then set out on your first chimpanzee trek in the dense forests of Gombe. With the help of your experienced guide, you'll track the movements of the park's famous chimpanzees. Watching these intelligent creatures interact in their natural habitat is a truly unforgettable experience. The trek may be challenging as you navigate the steep and sometimes slippery terrain, but the reward of observing chimpanzees up close makes it all worthwhile. Return to the lodge for lunch and some downtime. In the afternoon, visit Kakombe Waterfall, a beautiful and serene spot where you can cool off in the natural pool or enjoy the surroundings.
After breakfast, embark on another chimpanzee trek, venturing into different parts of the park to observe these fascinating primates in a new setting. In addition to chimpanzees, keep an eye out for other wildlife such as red colobus monkeys, baboons, and a variety of bird species. After the morning trek, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, take a hike to Jane’s Peak, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the park and Lake Tanganyika. The vantage point provides a breathtaking perspective of Gombe’s unique landscape. You can also spend time by the lake, swimming or relaxing on the shore.
After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy your final moments at Gombe before being transferred by boat back to Kigoma. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Dar es Salaam, marking the end of your unforgettable Gombe safari adventure.
